SUNSOCIETY is an independent label born in Ibiza that creates sustainable sun protection apparel and swimwear in a minimalist aesthetic. Ethically made by local artisans in Northern Portugal using highest quality Italian fabrics, all products aim to have the perfect balance between efficiency and design. From sourcing to packaging, every step is transparent, and conscious.
 
The idea for SUNSOCIETY came to me in a very everyday way. I’m a mom of two active boys and I’ve always loved the beach. But over time, I found myself seeking shade more and more, under umbrellas, hats, anything to protect my skin. The kids, of course, had other plans: they wanted me with them, building sandcastles, swimming, collecting sea shells.

I felt that sunscreen alone wasn’t enough, my skin would still feel stressed after a long day at the beach. And we still had several months to go in Ibiza. I started looking for sun protective clothing that I actually wanted to wear: pieces that felt good on the skin, looked great, and were made responsibly. What I needed didn’t seem to exist. So I began sketching and brainstorming. When I returned home, the idea stayed with me. So I followed it.

Since our creation in 2022, we are committed to slow fashion. We create only one regular collection, don’t do sales, and close our shop on Black Friday.

We also believe we’re all connected, so we intensely thought about how to give back. Our family really loves chocolate, but the cocoa industry is very untransparent and unfair. So we decided to partner with initiatives that fight child labor and trafficking in Ghana and the Ivory Coast, two of the world’s largest cocoa producing countries. The issue is massive, but we hope our contribution helps…and maybe even inspires.
